'Mad Max: The Wasteland' director George Miller surprises fans of two more planned sequels after the successful 2015 'Fury Road'. He will return to helm the second installment after a quick break. He revealed that negotiations with Warner Bros. are currently ongoing.

Director George Miller revealed in an interview with Top Gear that he was done writing the script of not one but two planned sequels to follow the 2015 success 'Mad Max: Fury Road'.

He said, "We were then rained out of Australia... The desert rained for the first time in 15 years, and we ended up in South West Africa, Namibia. But in this process, we had dug down deep into the backstory, not only of the characters, but of every vehicle.

How the steering wheels became religious artefacts and things like that... So we ended up with two scripts, without really trying. We're talking to the studio [Warner Bros] about it as we speak, but which one of the two stories will happen next, I'm not so sure."

Miller admitted that the first film, which was intended to be a reboot of the age old dystopian franchise, began pre-production with original star Mel Gibson in as early as 1997 but filming was delayed because of the 9/11 attacks, the Iraq war and the recession that followed. He said that their budget went down the drain after that and it took several years later to push through with the project.

According to Independent, it was previously reported that the running title for the upcoming sequel will be 'Mad Max: The Wasteland'. Another proposed title was 'Mad Max: Furiosa' after Charlize Theron's character Imperator Furiosa. It was speculated that one title would belong to one script while the other would be for the succeeding film.

The 70-year old filmmaker expanded on his plans to work on a "quick" project before starting on the next installment in the Mad Max franchise. According to Consequence of Sound, Miller admitted that he would depart his fictional post-apocalyptic world momentarily to focus on a film without special effects or other such chaotic stunts before jumping back on for a second film. He said that 'Fury Road' took eight months of filming in heat and dust and it was a draining experience.

'Mad Max: The Wasteland' is a planned follow-up to the rebooted Mad Max franchise. The previous film proved to be successful among critics and earned $374 million in the box office against a $150 million budget, according to Box Office Mojo. It starred Tom Hardy as the lead protagonist Max Rockatansky, Theron as Furiosa, Nicholas Hoult as Hux, Hugh Keays-Byrne as Immortan Joe, Rosie Hutington-Whiteley as The Splendid Angharad, and Zoe Kravitz as Toast The Knowing.
