After 27 years since its release in 1988, a "Beetlejuice" sequel is finally happening. Although Warner Bros has not announced a start date of filming nor the release date of the movie, it is certain that actors Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder will be coming back to reprise their roles. The information was confirmed through several interviews, and with the cherry on top, Tim Burton will be directing again.
Lead star of the first "Beetlejuice" movie, Geena Davis has recently expressed her desire to join her original co-stars in the movie sequel. When asked in an interview if she would be coming back to a "Beetlejuice 2," she remarks that she knows that it was happening but no one has talked about it with her. She said that she would love to jump onboard especially that it is one of her favorite films. She jokes about ghosts not aging and she has not aged, but perhaps Alec Baldwin did.
Talking about age, the 59 year old Davis who has played the iconic roles of Thelma in "Thelma and Louise" and Dottie Hinson in "A League of their Own," has recently landed the character of the 44 year old daughter of Jon Hamm in the new indie movie, "Marjorie Prime."
The 25th anniversary of her 1991 classic with Susan Sarandon, "Thelma & Louise" will be next year and Davis shares that they have been talking a lot about how they will celebrate the anniversary, "like do a live stage show with clips from the film."
Burton, previously revealed that the script is already done. "There's a script now, that I think is closer to what it could be and I'm excited about it." He said that he wouldn't call it so much a sequel, but as mentioned earlier, it will have some characters from the original 'Beetlejuice.'
On the other hand, screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith pronounced that "Beetlejuice 2" would be set in the present day and will most likely going to start filming this year. Grahame-Smith shared that Burton is excited about the film but he needs to clear his plate first of his commitment to "Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children." "The ideal timeline is we're really getting into it toward the end of this year," Grahame-Smith added.
