Last week, rumors emerged that the "Terminator: Genisys" sequel movies has been put on hold. But recently, the rumors have been cleared out following the box office flop of the latest movie franchise.
According to Dana Goldberg, Skydance chief creative officer, they still plan to pursue the next steps for Terminator. The Wrap noted that she "wouldn't say on hold, so much as re-adjusting". She also reiterated that the studio has had planned every step for the franchise. "At Skydance, when we talk movies, we talk universes, even more than franchises," she said. "So the idea of a 'Terminator' TV show fits into that universe. All the steps have to be taken in unison."
Although the movie has reportedly lost money, the studio and Skydance are still happy with the result. In an article on the Empire, Goldberg pointed out that the movie franchise was paid well in the worldwide market which was a big deal but, they "are not taking the domestic number lightly".
Moreover, she said they will try to improve the next Terminator sequel through audience surveys as to what was flawed and what was appropriate. Movie Pilot insisted that the "Terminator: Genisys" was the first western film that earned more than $400 million but did not gross $100 million in North America. With this, the studio plans to have a worldwide research study to make the next movie franchise better.
"Terminator: Genisys" has only grossed $90 million nationwide with an allotted budget of $155 million. Although it earned $350 million internationally, the movie was told to still be losing money. While the Genisys faces with the domestic gross issues, the studio are doing something about it.
Considering what the audiences might say, Goldberg revealed that the productions will unlikely start early next year. At least, fans will still get to see the "Terminator: Genisys" once it comes back to life again.
