The Cupertino-based tech giant has issued a statement about the "battery gate" scandal it involved with. To settle things once and for all, Apple has addressed the issue about the differences in performance between A9 chips used in its iPhone 6s and 6s Plus.
Recently, there is a bit of whirlwind concerning Apple users' claims that some iPhone 6s versions with A9 processors from Samsung have substandard battery life than those iPhone 6s models that come with A9 processors sourced from TSMC. The users have been prodding at devices coming up with numbers that point to hypothetical 50-minute differences in battery life.
According to TechCrunch, the tech giant explained in a statement that battery life difference in real world usage conditions only checks in at about 2 to 3%, which is far too low to be noticeable in reality. Even though there have been a number of videos and articles about how much power one chip or the other uses, the tests are what Apple calls "manufactured." Essentially, they are unrealistic machine-driven tests, which do not reflect authentic usage.
As per Apple's statement, the A9 chip in the iPhone 6s or 6s Plus are the most advanced smartphone chip in the universe. Additionally, the company states that "Every chip we ship meets Apple's highest standards for providing incredible performance and deliver great battery life, regardless of iPhone 6s capacity, color, or model."
Furthermore, Apple opposes some manufactured lab tests that run the processors with a continuous heavy workload up to the point that the battery drains. It is a misleading way to measure real-world battery life. The 2 to 3% difference the tech giant is saying means that one's iPhone and someone else's likely vary as much as 3% despite of who produced them.
Overall, Apple would not say anything as to why there were two different manufacturers for the A9 chips. However, Apple spectators and users should understand and accept the company's statement about the battery gate issue.
