With Netflix still keeping "Longmire's" fate in the balance, fans of the series find themselves in the same predicament as they were in last year - fighting to save the show from cancellation. "Longmire" just wrapped its fourth season last Sept. 10 but fans are already demanding that the streaming giant pick up the Western crime drama for a fifth season.
Christian Today reports that fans considered Netflix as their beloved show's savior last year after it gave the show another shot after being cancelled by A&E. This was after the fans fought long and hard in a campaign to save the show.
Fans were shocked after the A&E network cancelled the show after three seasons. At the time, the network said that while the show garnered positive reviews and good ratings, it did not fit its target demographic. Soon, fan petitions and posts on social media convinced Warner Bros. to offer the show to various networks until a fourth season was picked up by Netflix.
A lot of people are surprised by the fans' reactions considering the season just wrapped up. Ecumenical News thinks that the fans no doubt want to prevent "Longmire" to have another brush with cancellation. Unfortunately, Netflix is known to take a while in ordering renewals of their original shows like "Orange is the New Black" and Marvel's "Daredevil". For "Longmire", it needs to see the numbers of its Season 4 before making a decision. Since it has only been a month since the release, it may take a while to gauge whether the show deserves another season or not.
Now, in an attempt to pull off what they did last year, the show's horde of devoted followers known as the Longmire Posse, once again came together to show their strength in order to see more of Sheriff Walt Longmire's stories.
According to Gospel Herald, the group organized an online event last October 7. Their Facebook page said, "during the hour long Stampede, every share on Facebook of a Longmire Posse post, will go directly to Netflix & Longmire pages, as they will be tagged in every post! If you tweet, be sure to retweet all content with the hashtag on the poster, and @netflix in the tweet - as those too, will be seen by Netflix."
So far the Longmire Posse has over 50,000 likes. Will this be enough for Netflix or any other network to realize that the show is worthy of another chance?
