Iron Man 4 is yet to be given the green light by Marvel and aside from director Shane Black's statement that Robert Downey Jr will be back to don the Iron Man suit, no official details have been revealed yet. However, numerous speculations have been revolving around the film which could indicate the possible plot.
Robert Downey Jr has not been officially confirmed to reprise his role as Iron Man as of yet but according to a report by International Business Times, Downey Jr.'s return could be possible as director Black believes that the fourth film could be underway soon.
However, according to Inquisitr, speculations are persistent that money is the only factor that's getting in the way for Marvel and Downey Jr to make the film as the latter is reportedly asking for increase in his already large $50 million dollar pay.
Plot details also suggest that Downey could be replaced by a much younger character in the person of Ty Simpkins' Harley Kenner who helped Iron Man in the previous film. According to Master Herald, Marvel might consider replacing Downey Jr in the role in case they fail to reach a common ground in the negotiation. Since the film is currently not in Marvel's slate for phase 3 films, it could be released in 2019 where Simpkins would be 17 to 18 years old and definitely old enough to don the suit.
Also, rumors suggest that if Iron Man 4 gets pushed through, the titular hero might finally come face to face against the real Mandarin, the leader of the Ten Rings which was the organization which was the reason why the Iron Man suit was made. The hint for this possible plot sequel was reportedly found in Ant-Man where a businessman who went to Pym Technologies showed the Mandarin tattoo situated on his neck.
Official details are currently scarce for Iron Man 4 but more details are expected to be revealed as soon as the film is confirmed by Marvel. Iron Man 3 which was stared Downey, Jr. was a box office success earning more than $1.2 billion worldwide according to Box Office Mojo.
