'Enchanted 2' is finally confirmed to be in the works and has a running title of 'Disenchanted'. It may see the return of original cast Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey, James Marsden and Susan Sarandon under the direction of new filmmaker Anne Fletcher.
According to Den of Geek, talk of the planned sequel began around five years ago but no official announcements materialized until recently. Disney declared that the second film's running title will be 'Disenchanted' and will be helmed by director Anne Fletcher. The 49-year old filmmaker is known for mainstream hits including 'Step Up', '27 Dresses', 'The Proposal' and 'Guilt Trip'.
Fletcher is reportedly taking over since the first film's director Kevin Lima will not be returning for the sequel. Lima has directed several Disney films such as his debut film 'A Goofy Movie' back in 1995, 'Tarzan', '102 Dalmatians' and the 'Eloise' series.
Lima brought in Amy Adams as Giselle, the idealistic princess-to-be, even though the studio was looking for a bigger star to fill the role. The director insisted that although she was a lesser-known actress, she had the traits of several Disney princesses and was able to portray the character quite well - from her initial naivety to her maturing yet innocent optimism.
The first film took Giselle to New York City where she discovered that her ideal fairytale life was but a fantasy, according to Cinema Blend. The film combined elements of animation as seen in the first and last parts of the film and live-action scenes. It was in itself homage and a parody to many of Disney's animated feature films.
According to Moviepilot, Adams may be returning to reprise her role as Giselle. It remains unclear whether Patrick Dempsey and James Marsden would return as Robert and Prince Edward respectively. Susan Sarandon, who played the main villain Queen Narissa, disappeared in a puff of magic dust and smoke in the preceding film but some rumors have emerged of her return for the sequel.
'Enchanted 2' or 'Disenchanted' is an upcoming fantasy-comedy film by Walt Disney Studios intended as a sequel to 2007's 'Enchanted'. The first film was well-received critically and earned $340 million in the box office. It also established Amy Adams as one of Hollywood's upcoming favorite leading ladies.
