On its third week, "The Good Wife" was seen going through a time-period process of testing Alicia’s dynamic with Cush Jumbo’s character, Lucca, who entered season seven as a new series regular. In a parallel storyline, the episode titled “Cooked” also allowed for Alicia’s strained relationship with Diane to be rekindled.
As reported by Mashable, the case of the week involving a drug dealer case went south for Alicia and Lucca, forging a major sense of betrayal on Alicia’s part. “This case presents the first test for Alicia and Lucca's budding relationship. The fact that Alicia was so quick to jump to conclusions about Lucca's motives points to how much her engagement with politics have changed her in the past few years. She doesn't hesitate to accuse Lucca of trying to screw her over,” the site commented.
Interestingly, the conflict was resolved but in way that only fueled the fact that Alicia’s paranoia reached a new level. “As luck would have it, Alicia's client isn't after her. He's an undercover FBI agent who is after the Judge Schakowski for corruption and is trying to catch him accepting a bribe”.
In the hope of giving Alicia and Diane fans a storyline that can allow for the ex-partners to throw some eyebrow-raising lines at each other, The Good Wife enlisted Diane to reach out to Alicia. The result, almost quite expectedly, backfired. “She asks the equity partners whether they should start funneling Alicia work, which leads to her visiting Alicia in her in-home office ... and then coming back the next day to rescind the offer, after she hears that Alicia has been helping Howard Lyman,” Vulture wrote in a recap.
In other developments, “Cooked” unfolded another layer from Peter Florrick’s trajectory as he race to climb the political ladder. Unfortunately, TV Line pressed that the storyline was rather futile. “Ruth and her team argue that Peter needs to push a “family first” agenda — are they not aware he’s done jail time and has admitted to sleeping with prostitutes? — the better to cement a center-right tilt to balance Hillary’s campaign and make him her most likely Veep,” the site commented.
