'Elite Dangerous: Horizons' Gameplay Footages Released; Planetary Landings Including Terrestrial Base-Raiding Revealed

By

Frontier Developments CEO David Braben reportedly released gameplay footages of "Elite Dangerous: Horizons." And despite the brevity, the clips are said to showcase the terrestrial base-raiding that fans will get to see in Planetary Landings the moment the game rolls out come holiday season.

According to iDigitalTimes, a brief snippet of "Elite Dangerous: Horizons" gameplay footages were published by Frontier Developments CEO David Braben himself on Friday morning. The video, however, didn't reportedly reveal further details about the forthcoming game and reports also didn't include why Braben decided to give fans a sneak peek at the terrestrial base-raiding.

Nonetheless, it was suggested that the CEO of the video game developer company needed to show something, so as to pique interest and generate hype. Meanwhile, others reportedly speculate that this was due to the fact that the recent "Elite Dangerous: Horizons" preview streams lack enthusiasm. Either way, fans have reportedly admitted that the new preview got them more excited than before.

In addition, VG247 reported that the gameplay footages also displayed the new surface vehicles, which are called SRVs. The Surface Recon Vehicles are reportedly a bit small compared to the space ships. The Horizons expansion is not only believed to showcase planetary landings, but as well as buggies and multiplayer ships.

Tom's Hardware, on the other hand, reported that Frontier Development's executive producer Ben Dowie has provided some details about the Planetary Landings feature, which is part of the game's expansion, at PAX Prime. Dowie reportedly mentioned about a sub-orbital speed that will slow down the ship for an easy and safe landing prior to its touchdown. However, the process is believed to go through various stages before the ship makes its mark on the planet. In "Elite Dangerous: Horizons," this will reportedly be changed a bit, as a new module can automatically attached the ship while slowing it down to a speed called Orbital Cruise.

"Elite Dangerous: Horizons" is currently developed for PC and Xbox One and its first premium expansion, Planetary Landings, is expected to debut later this year. For now, fans will have to satisfy themselves with the gameplay footages that Frontier Developments CEO David Braben unveiled.
