The successful U.S. screening of the latest addition to the Naruto cinematic franchise prompted organizers to bring the animated film to more territories around the world. According to Otaku Study, Madman Entertainment released the film from October 15-21, 2015 in selected theaters around Australia and New Zealand. It is an Australian company specializing in the distribution of anime and manga properties around the continent.
Madman secured local rights for several popular manga and anime titles including 'One Piece', 'Neon Genesis Evangelion', 'Dragon Ball', 'Akira' as well as most in the Studio Ghibli collection. The company accounts for about 97% of the anime DVD market in Australia.
According to Naruto.net, cinema locations for the Australian screening included one in the Australian Capital Territory, one in the Northern Territory, one in Tasmania, three in South Australia, three in Western Australia, 10 in Victoria, 12 in Queensland, 17 in New South Wales. The film also screened in 18 New Zealand theaters.
Madman Entertainment marked the special release by partnering with cosplay film specialists Deerstalker Pictures to create a funny live-action short featuring Naruto and Boruto engaging in a friendly battle out in the woods. According to an article by PC Authority, the fan-made film also brought other supporting characters to life including Sasuke, Kakashi and Sakura.
The latest film explores the unusual relationship between Naruto Uzumaki and his son Boruto - with the latter determined to prove his worth to his father. The obstinate and hot-headed Boruto convinces Naruto's friend and occasional rival Sasuke Uchiha to train him in hopes of defeating his father.
'Boruto: Naruto the Movie' is the highest grossing film in the anime-manga series, released in Japan last August 7. It is considered 11th film in the franchise and is directed by Hiroyuki Yamashita. It follows the new generation fighters and focuses Boruto accompanied by his friend and teammate Sarada, Sasuke's own daughter.
