Although his upcoming Aquaman solo film is still a couple of years away, Jason Momoa revealed that he has been digging on comic books about the character. He also shared his excitement in playing as the King of Seven Seas.
With Warner Bros/DC's promise of a darker and grittier take on their iconic superheroes, much anticipation have been circling around their upcoming films, including the one which will star Aquaman. As reported by Screen Rant, Momoa revealed during the 2015 Dallas Comic Con that he has been doing his research for the upcoming project.
"So, there's not really a lot of spoilers I can give away. But the research I've done on the New 52 stuff with Geoff Johns, and just researching who he is, he's amazing. He's got a lot of powers. He's extremely tough. He's super strong. But I'm excited about... there's a big beautiful map laid out and I wish I could carry it with me. It'll come out soon enough and you'll see just how big it's going to be", Momoa revealed.
The abovementioned New 52 comics was a relaunch of DC's comic books. The Aquaman releases were overseen by Geoff Johns and lasted for 16 issues. It proved to be a huge success, which eventually led to a crossover entitled 'Throne of Atlantis' which eventually became the basis for the recent animated feature 'Justice League: Throne of Atlantis'.
Momoa has been revealing hints about Aquaman during the previous months and as reported by Movie Web, he even teased that his costume will bear the colors green and orange which many believe to be a homage to previous works of the character.
Plot details about the upcoming Aquaman solo film are currently undisclosed as it is still more than 2 years away. However, Cinema Blend noted that the characters of Ocean Master, Black Manta, Mera, and The Trench are also speculated to appear as well.
'Furious 7' director James Wan is currently attached to direct the forthcoming Aquaman solo film from the screenplay by Kurt Johnstad. More details about the project are expected to be revealed as it nears its July 27, 2018 play date.
