Motorola is preparing for the release of the Android 6.0 Marshmallow firmware update to the Moto X Pure Edition 2015 model by soaking some Moto X owners with a test version of the update.
The announcement was made by Motorola Mobility Senior Director, David Shuster, stating that the company has started the soak test period of Android 6.0 Marshmallow upgrade for the 3rd generation of the Moto X, which was launched in 2015, says ZD Net.
Motorola is known to be one of the quickest Google Android OEMs to push for version upgrades of mobile operating systems. Instead of creating skinned interface on top of the bare Android firmware, the phone builder simply uses the base build and adds a few features on top of it.
The update can be anywhere around 650 MB in download size, and users are encouraged to have stable WiFi connection and at least 50% of battery life when updating their phones once it arrives, says Android Police. But for the meantime, those who have been selected for the testing group can download the upgrade, though it will most probably be far from perfect, but still functional and stable.
According to GSM Arena, the 3rd gen of the Moto X Pure Edition was launched in July 2015, packing a 5.7 inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen, with a 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution and 520 ppi pixel density. Moreover, Corning Gorilla Glass 3 covers the surface of the smartphone.
The Moto X (2015) launched with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box being run by a Qualcomm MSM8992 Snapdragon 808 chipset and 3 GB of RAM. There are 16, 32 and 64 GB versions for internal memory and can be expanded up to 128GB through a microSD card slot.
The back camera packs 21 megapixels with phase detection autofocus, dual-LED (dual tone) flash, Geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, panorama and auto-HDR. The front camera is 5 megapixels with LED flash.
