Android 6.0.1 is Rolling Out to Nexus Phones and Coming to HTC

By

Android 6.0.1 is currently rolling out for the Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P and other early adopter handsets that now have the Marshmallow update, and it brings a couple of new add-ons to the user experience.

9to5 Google reports that the software update brings new emojis and a new bottom bar for tablets that moves the onscreen buttons to the side of the screen. The update also brings back the old do not disturb mode from Android 5.1.

According to International Business Times, the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update carries more than 200 new emoji and new tweaks to the operating system. Factory images have now been released for the Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6, Nexus 5, Nexus 9, Nexus 7 (2013) and Nexus Player. The update is coming out in a phased manner, and can be flashed manually into handsets.

The changes to the tablet experience for Android 6.0.1 make it a lot easier to hit the "back" and "home" buttons that have been shifted towards the left and the "overview" multitasking button that has been moved to the right, says XDA Developers. It makes more sense as the tablet user's hands are usually positioned on the sides instead of at the bottom.

Currently, the update to the Android firmware is only available for Nexus devices, but pretty soon other OEMs will be getting their hands on the firmware update as phone manufacturers like Samsung, Huawei, Motorola and HTC continue to work around the clock to bring the Android 6.0 Marshmallow experience to their phone owners.

The Android 6.0 Marshmallow firmware update brings an array of new and improved features to Android phones. Some features will include the famous Doze Mode, which is a smart standby mode that improves battery life significantly, adjustments to mandatory fingerprint sensor settings, and changes to the user interface design of the mobile operating system.

The HTC One M9 will be one of the first non-Nexus handsets that will receive the Android 6.0.1 update, as Mo Versi, VP of Product Management at HTC, announced via a tweet that it will be coming this month.
