'Aquaman' is an upcoming superhero film based on the DC character of the same name. It was speculated that Ocean Master will make an appearance as the film's main villain to battle it out with Jason Momoa's titular King of Atlantis. Casting for Queen Mera was also revealed with Jessica Alba as the unofficial number one fan favorite to play the key role.
According to Screen Crush, new reports speculate that Jason Momoa's titular ruler of Atlantis is all set to battle Orm Marius a.k.a. Ocean Master. In the original comic books, Ocean Master is Aquaman's half-brother and draws comparisons with Thor's battles against half-brother Loki in another series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The news comes after rumors of Black Manta's potential appearance as the main supervillain in the upcoming standalone film.
Ocean Master was introduced in the comic books as Aquaman's evil step-brother and one of his most dominant enemies. He is able to manipulate energies, has the power of telepathy, and carries a magical trident used to focus his magical abilities. He wears a water breather helmet and additional armor to help him adapt to an aquatic environment.
It was previously speculated that Black Manta will be the main villain but JoBlo reported otherwise. It was natural to assume that the supervillain would wreak havoc in Aquaman's first ever solo outing since he is also considered one of the hero's greatest enemies - akin to Batman's Joker.
Producer Charles Roven teased that director James Wan and the rest of the team are still working on a screenplay. Wan is currently attached to the horror sequel 'The Conjuring: Enfield Poltergeist' but is set to begin work on 'Aquaman' after wrapping up.
Meanwhile, casting for Queen Mera is ongoing and the studio is seeking a non-white actress to fill the key female role as Momoa's on-screen partner. In the original DC comic books, Mera is depicted as a traditional Caucasian woman with flowing red hair but it may seem that the deviation was considered to match Momoa's mixed race.
An article from Movie Pilot put together a short list of potential fan favorites to play the powerful wife of Aquaman with Hollywood beauty Jessica Alba in the top spot. Although the list remains very much unofficial, it seems that the 34-year old actress-model would possibly make a good fit as the Queen of Atlantis. She starred in comic book adaptations in the past including 'Sin City' and 'Fantastic Four'.
'Aquaman' is an upcoming science-fiction adventure film scheduled to be released on July 27, 2018. It will be directed by James Wan of 'The Conjuring' and 'Furious 7' fame based on a screenplay by David Johnson. Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder and Zack Snyder have signed up as the film's producers.
