"How I Met Your Mother" (HIMYM) canned spin-off "How I Met Your Dad" (HIMYD) may still be given the opportunity to air.
According to recent reports, CBS is considering bringing the show back. CBS Chairman Nina Tassler said that she would love to give HIMYD "another shot."
Tassler, who said that some of the things about HIMYD worked, "some things didn't." She told E! News: "Craig and Carter and Emily, we adore those guys, we want very much to stay in business with them. We'd love the opportunity to take another shot."
Carter Bays and Craig Thomas--creators of HIMYM, which had its series finale in March--worked with writer Emily Spivey ("Up All Night") in creating the spin-off, to be led by Greta Gerwig. A pilot was shown, but did not please the people at the network, and got eventually dismissed.
Other cast members included Anders Holm ("Workaholics," "The Mindy Project"), Nicholas D' Agosto ("Final Destination 5"), Drew Tarver ("May The Best Man Win"), and Tiya Sircar ("The Internship"). Meg Ryan was the narrator.
CBS reportedly asked Bays and Thomas to redo the pilot, but they said no.
Bays, however, made it clear that the show is done for now. He tweeted: "HIMYD was fun to work on, terrific cast, terrific writer [Emily Spivey], but it's over now and we have other stuff we want to do."
He adds: "Maybe in the future it could be something, but I think we need to try something new before we go back to it. To everyone who wanted to see it, I'm sorry. (And to everyone who didn't, you're welcome!)"
While the fate of HIMYD is being determined, fans could relive their favorite moments through the show's recently-released boxed set DVD, which will include a never-before-seen alternate ending.
"How I Met Your Mother - The Whole Story' DVD package" is set to be released in September.
