"Avengers: Age of Ultron" isn't even in theaters yet (it isn't even close- there's still nearly a year before the second "Avengers" film releases) and talk has already begun for the third "Avengers" film.
Thanks to minor detail in "Guardians of the Galaxy," we may know a major Marvel player for "Avengers 3." According to a podcast done with Empire Online, "Guardians" director confirmed something fans have been speaking about in hushed tones for years: the existence of Adam Warlock in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Warlock, a human being engineered to be perfect, who can fly through space and manipulate some of the most powerful cosmic forces in the Marvel Universe. And in "Thor: the Dark World," it was speculated that Adam Warlock's cocoon (in which Adam Warlock can grow, recuperate, and buld his energy powers) can be spotted in the back of The Collector's hideout in a post-credits scene.
Gunn, speaking with Empire Online, confirms it- it really is Adam Warlock's cocoon. And in a similar scene in "Guardians of the Galaxy," Gunn confirmed another bombshell- Adam Warlock's cocoon is there as well, only now it's open.
KpopStarz speculates that Marvel will one day bring all its heroes together to fight Thanos, the villain first teased in "The Avengers," and if so, they would need Adam Warlock on their side (in the comics, Warlock is integral in defeating Thanos). However, it's not clear just what kind of a role he'd play- and chances are, given Gunn's inclusion of the character, he'd probably show up in Gunn's upcoming "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" before in any other comic book film.
Yahoo! also claims that it will be "Avengers 3" that will contain the Thanos/Infinity Gauntlet storyline, so chances are Adam Warlock would have to be a solidified part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in three to four years' time- just enough time for Joss Whedon to put out another "Avengers" sequel.
