"Minecraft" Hits the Xbox One on September 5, PS4 Release Date Still a Mystery

By

Clearly, game developer Mojang will not be satisfied until every human being on the planet owns at least one copy of "Minecraft" (although two would be preferred.)

According to The Epoch Times, the unbelievably popular game (seriously- it's already sold more than 54 million copies) is now coming out on a slew of new consoles. Expect that 54 million figure to become much higher in a short period of time.

All these new "Minecraft" ports have been rumored for a while, but now we know for certain- on Friday, September 5, "Minecraft" will arrive on the Xbox One console. According to The Epoch Times, the game world in the Xbox One version will be up to 15 times bigger than the one currently found in the Xbox 360 version. The game will retail for $19.99, but will be available at a discount, for only $4.99, if you already own the Xbox 360 version.

The launch on newer Sony consoles, however, isn't following through nearly as smoothly. According to iDigital Times, Mojang and Sony have been pushing to get the game out on PS4 and PS3/Vita, but there's no clear release date and no solid information from anyone.

IDigital Times claims the game was finished for PS4 weeks ago, which make the delays even more disconcerting.

However, a new update from Joystiq seems to report that "Minecraft" has officially launched in European regions on the PS4, so presumably a North American launch must be close at hand. They also report that Playstation France announced a September 3 release date, but later retracted that information.

One way or another, the game will make it to the Playstation 4. There's no way Mojang would deny themselves new customers.

Check back soon for the latest details on "Minecraft" and its next-gen console launch.
