Ridley Scott has been busy with the premiere of his latest sci-fi movie The Martian. However, aside from promoting the said film, Scott has also been giving details about his current project, 'Prometheus 2' or now with the revealed title 'Alien: Paradise Lost', tying it up directly to the Alien franchise. With Michael Fassbender coming back to film in February, Scott teases the audiences with bits and pieces of information on the Prometheus sequel.
In an interview with HeyUGuys, Scott explained that the title of 'Prometheus 2' which is 'Alien: Paradise Lost', has a lot to do with the John Milton inspiration that started out in the first Prometheus film. Echoing Milton's Paradise Lost, and very strikingly, its opening passage, the plot of 'Prometheus 2' will build up to sequels that connects it to the first Alien movie.
As reported by Screen Rant, with the official title of 'Alien: Paradise Lost', 'Prometheus 2' will see some connections to Alien's character, Ripley. What exactly these will be are still unknown, but Scott has already met with Alien 5 director Neill Blomkamp to iron out details and avoid contradictions in the Xenomorphic universe.
Scott also told The Daily Beast that the decision to shoot 'Prometheus 2' or 'Alien: Paradise Lost' now is because it might get "too long away from" from the original. With the plan of doing more sequels for Prometheus, it is understandable that the director wants to build it up now.
With the script ready, 'Prometheus 2' or 'Alien: Paradise Lost' will get "closer and closer to the creation of the beasts" and will eventually reveal the process and the reason why they were created. Neill Blomkamp's Alien 5, which will be out in 2017, will be expected to be much more intertwined with Prometheus mythology, as they are done with the first screenplay draft. Scott has also confirmed the return of Michael Fassbender as David and Noomi Rapace as Elizabeth Shaw, with shooting to start in February, and slated for a May 30, 2017 release.
