Just after the box office success of "Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials", the sequel movie is already under development. However, the "Maze Runner: The Death Cure" will be the ultimate movie for the trilogy. The director said it won't be divided into two parts.

In an article on the Movie Pilot, it was reported that the third installment marks the final movie of the movie series. Although the story consists of two more books, the movie might end with "The Death Cure". Dylan O'Brien actually wanted more than three movies but the director said it will be the last. However, the movie producers insisted that they have no idea whether a fourth movie will be produced.

According to director Wes Ball during an interview, "Maze Runner: The Death Cure" will jump a year from the second installment movie. But, Digital Spy indicated that the movie will contain only one part unlike other movies. Ball also cleared that the sequel will end in the third installment franchise.

"I think three is the number; beginning, middle, end, that's it. Four? I think there's something off about four. For me, if I have any say in it, there's three movies basically," he said. "We're not going to [split a book in two], no way. I think three movies is the right number, Star Wars!"

Meanwhile, the casting has not been revealed yet whether the third film will have new characters. However, Fashion & Style confirmed that Dylan O'Brien, Kaya Scodelario, Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Newt), Ki Hong Lee, Patricia Clarkson (Ava Paige), Rosa Salazar (Brenda), Nathalie Emmanuel (Harriet), Jacob Lofland (Aris), Aidan Gillen (A.D Janson), Gian Carlo Esposito (Jorge) are expected to reprise their roles.

The Death Cure is the third book in James Dashner's Maze runner trilogy. The third book will be about the revenge and the death cure. They will soon find out that there is a cure for the Flare, a deadly disease which immunes other but affects almost all of the people.

The second movie which was released this year earned a total of $211 million worldwide. While others hope for more than three Maze Runner sequel films, "Maze Runner: The Death Cure" is scheduled for a 2017 release.
