The BlackBerry Priv is expected to combine Android's best features with BlackBerry's top security attributes. It will reportedly sell in China at a premium price of $630 USD.
According to a news report by Tech Times, the BlackBerry Priv will be a mix of Android and BlackBerry - with the most advanced features of Android mixed with BlackBerry's finest security services. BlackBerry CEO John Chen expressed his confidence on the BlackBerry Priv on the BlackBerry blog:
"First, I have 100 percent confidence in our new Priv smartphone. Not only will it bring BlackBerry's strong privacy DNA to the Android platform, but Priv will deliver top-of-the-line features for your maximum productivity, including an oversized screen and, underneath it, a smooth sliding mechanism that unveils the iconic BlackBerry keyboard."
The BlackBerry Priv team believes that the new flagship will be warmly accepted by a large market of Android consumers who want better security features on their phones. If it will succeed, the Priv could restore BlackBerry as a leading premium mobile phone manufacturer in the industry.
iDigitalTimes reported that the latest BlackBerry Priv rumors are about its price and specs. The BlackBerry Priv is tipped to be sold at a premium price of $630 USD in China. The Chinese market price could also hint to its US market price counterpart since BlackBerry has not announced anything yet about the US price.
Previous leaks said that the BlackBerry Priv would have an 18MP rear camera. However, recent rumors claim that the Priv's rear-facing snapper will have a 21MP resolution with a Sony IMX230 sensor similar to that of the Moto X Style.
In an earlier report by VCPost, it was stated that the BlackBerry Priv will have a sliding QWERTY keyboard, 4K video playback, and a BlackBerry Safeguard security app. These unique features are expected to give the Priv an edge over competitors in the smartphone market.
BlackBerry has not yet issued an official announcement on the Priv's release date. However, the company said that it would release the BlackBerry Priv by the end of 2015, likely before the holiday season starts.
