Latest NBA free agent rumors: Dan Gilbert letter 'Major' reason why LeBron still hesitant to play with Cavs

By

Chris Broussard believes that Cavs owner Dan Gilbert's letter to LeBron - a letter that attacked Jame's character, to say the least, when he decided to take his talents to Miami in the summer of 2010 - may be a strong factor on why LeBron has yet to decide on whether he will join the Heat or the Cavaliers this summer of the 2014 NBA free agency.

One reason, if not the major reason, that LeBron James has taken so long to decide whether to play in Miami or Cleveland next season is the infamous letter Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert penned about James after the superstar left Cleveland in 2010, sources said.

In the letter, Gilbert referred to LeBron as a "coward" and matched it with words like "betrayal" and "narcissistic". The letter was broadcasted in the Cavalier's website since LeBron left for Miami until the team removed it on Monday with the hopes of landing James this offseason.

Apparently, LeBron James hasn't moved on from the shame and insult he experienced because of the letter. Right now, he is still weighing on whether or not he will play with the Cavs under Gilbert's ownership. "If it wasn't for that letter, this would've been done awhile ago," one source said.

While James has yet to make it public on whether he will resign with the Heat or not, many are in doubt that he will go back to the Cavs and play for Gilbert especially that Gilbert never once made a publicly apology for what he has done to James with his letter.

Or perhaps James may just be using this as a perfect excuse once he decides to resign with the Heat? The Cavs have already gutted their roster to make room for Jame's and his max contract but if it turns out that he won't be coming, someone has to be put to blame. This time around, it will be Dan Gilbert and not LeBron because of his letter.

No one knows for sure how much of an impact that letter has on LeBron's decision this offseason. But one thing is for sure, he will have to eat his pride and/or throw every pain, shame, and any other emotion he has felt in the past after Dan Gilbert posted that controversial letter if he wants to make a grand reunion with his home town team the Cleveland Cavaliers.
