"Rizzoli & Isles" author Tess Gerritsen takes a break from the series with a brand new novel, "Playing with Fire." Fans will be delighted as Gerritsen crafted another excellent story which is different from others she's written.

The new novel, "Playing with Fire" is about a violinist who stumbled upon an unknown composition called "Incendio" when she visited Rome. She started to play the piece when she got home and was startled to see that her 3-year old daughter reacted violently to the piece.

The piece dates back before World War II and was composed by a young man named Lorenzo from Venice. He fell in love with a girl named Laura but his Jewish roots would soon collide with their romance. Gerritsen's piece jumps back and forth between the two stories which are both equally compelling while the waltz piece, "Incendio," connects the two tales together.

In an interview with Tess Gerritsen, she shares that the novel was inspired from a dream when she was in Venice. It was actually a nightmare where she was playing "dark and disturbing music" with the violin while a baby sat next to her. As she played, the baby's eyes glowed red and turned into a monster. She says, "I woke up questioning what this was about. I knew there was a story there: something about the power of music... We talk about music soothing the savage beast, but what if it awakens the beast? I walked around Venice and had no idea where the story would go, but kept thinking about it."

The whole story came to the author when she wandered around Venice, particularly to the old Jewish quarter from World War II. She adds, "This had never before happened, that a story so full-blown and complete, came to me in a dream."

Tess Gerritsen is an acclaimed crime/thriller novelist. The characters of TNT's "Rizzoli & Isles", an American police procedural crime drama series, is based on the characters created by the renowned author. The television adaptation was developed by Janet Tamaro. Its first season premiered on July 12, 2010 on TNT. The last episode of Season 6 was aired last September titled "5:26" Shortly after the airing of the season finale, the series was immediately renewed for a seventh season.
